Correlation not causation but could something in tangers physical conditioning routine make him more prone to strokes?

Man oh man. My heart sunk when I saw this.

A few blogs ago, in relation to his play this season, I said we have no idea what's going on with him off the ice. I said maybe his marriage is on the rocks or a parent isn't doing well, we have no idea. It's true it might not be related to this at all but I just don't see a guy having a career year then only three or four months later playing at a much less level.

Im no doctor but I feel as though his extremely healthy lifestyle and routine would probably help...as opposed to overweight, inactive, bad diet, etc.

Pretty shocking, but glad he's apparently doing ok. Hope he has a speedy and full recovery.

You’d think. And I’m sure he’s consulted with dieticians and docs on his routine. But it is odd. Wonder if it runs in the family?

No it would be more likely due to TBIs from playing a collision sport or simply losing the genetic lottery and having underlying health issues because of that.

Yeah, after that first stroke, which was way more serious than this, I'm pretty sure it was said he was born with a little hole in his heart... Perhaps that was a different player.. Perhaps I dreamt that...

They should be able to call up Ty Smith when he’s on LTIR no?

This is right, so he has an underlying condition making him more prone to strokes.

Sad sad stuff. Reading the best it doesn’t sound like it’s as bad as the last time but who knows. Wish him a speedy recovery.

Who switches to RD if he comes up?... I'm all about Smith with the big club as I think a Smith/Rutta pair in a sheltered role could be quite good for us.... But he's a lefty and all the lefties are healthy.

We'll probably see the pairings we did last night going forward.

Generally, if you have had one stroke, it makes you more likely to have another one. He has a hole on his heart that he's had since birth. Not sure much other analysis is needed. This guy takes care of his body like no other athlete, or least a small number of them. Sometimes guys just lose the genetic lottery. I have a chronic illness, something I got genetically. Nothing I could have done better or worse to avoid it.

It sucks for him but I dont want to think his poor play was related to this. im not a doctor so what do i know.

Hopefully he takes the time he needs. It sounds like it wasnt too bad and they are saying it isnt career threatening, but i dont want him to spend the rest of his career worried about his health. much bigger things in life than hockey.

Thoughts and prayers with Letang.

Agree I think we'll see Friedman assuming they put him on LTIR. Sounds like he doesn't plan to miss a month, but they can't recall a seventh D without doing that.

Opens the door to a WBS player getting a look. But I think it might be a forward over Smith just because no reason to yank out POJ.

This is where it's nice to have Ruuta and Ruhwedel I guess.

I think it'll be a forward too...and most likely won't get any ice time, especially when you consider one of either Kap or Hein will probably be scratched as well.. I just had a look at WBS and there's a few forwards there right around a point per game.

On another note, hadn’t seen you around lately but just wanted to say Bologna was definitely my favorite city of all the Italian places we went to. I’m glad we stayed there for a few days.
